May is Museum Month in Ontario and May 18 is International Museum Day! Celebrate all the benefits that museums bring to our communities by visiting the Museum of Dufferin (MoD) this May.

“This year’s theme for May is Museum Month is Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing. Museums play a transformative role in sustainable development and wellbeing for communities,” says Sarah Robinson, Curator and Acting Manager, Museum Services. “We invite Dufferin County residents and visitors to visit the MoD to discover the stories of Dufferin’s people, places and culture!”

Behind the scenes tours – Saturday, May 20 and Saturday, May 27
The MoD will be leading special behind-the-scenes tours in storage rooms with the Curator, Archivist and Museum Manager. These rooms are not usually accessible to the public, but we’re opening them up just for visitors in honour of May is Museum Month!

How do we keep the artifacts and archival documents safe? How do we choose artifacts for display? Do we have dinosaur bones? Do we have secret love letters? Find out the answers to these questions and more on this rarely offered tour!

Tour passes are free with regular admission fee. Learn more at www.dufferinmuseum.com.

Free admission on International Museum Day – Thursday, May 18
As stated by the International Committee of Museums, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.” Explore the MoD for free on International Museum Day!

The MoD has many other great events and programs coming up this season, including:

  • Victoria Day Tea Party – Monday, May 22
  • Unity in Diversity Exhibition Opening – Friday, June 23
  • Multicultural Event in partnership with Dufferin County Multicultural Foundation – Saturday, June 24

Check out everything going on at the MoD at www.dufferinmuseum.com.
