Dufferin County shares local perspectives with Me and My EV: Stories from the Backroads electric vehicle campaign
Have you ever wondered about the benefits of electric vehicles, how they handle Dufferin winters and daily commutes or if they are right for you and your family? Dufferin County’s Climate and Energy Division is excited to share the experiences of local electric vehicle drivers across the community through its Me and My EV: Stories from the Backroads campaign!
Supported by Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative, the campaign aims to spreads awareness and understanding of EV options, benefits, performance and charging infrastructure through driver spotlights and hands-on test-drive opportunities.
“Now more than ever, we are encouraging our community to do their research and learn more about electric vehicles,” says Sara MacRae, Climate and Energy Manager, Dufferin County. “We must all work together to prioritize active, public, and electrified transportation options to help build a healthy and resilient community now and into the future. To support our community in making the switch, we have a network of 24 electric vehicle charging stations available across the county.”
With almost half of local greenhouse gas emissions attributed to the transportation sector, accelerating the transition to low-carbon options is one of the “top five moves” committed to in the Dufferin Climate Action Plan. Without action, Dufferin’s greenhouse gas emissions could rise 66 per cent by 2050.
“We know it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with many questions about range, charging and costs,” says Sara. “From back-road ranchers, commuters, young families and seasoned winter drivers, this campaign highlights the real-life experiences of the people we trust most – our neighbours.”
Residents can visit www.dufferincounty.ca/chargeupindufferin to access resources and explore interviews with community members as they share their experiences about:
- How EVs handle Dufferin’s snowy winters;
- What cost savings can be expected on fuel and maintenance;
- How easy it is to charge an EV and where local charging stations can be found; and,
- How an EV can fit into your specific life, needs and routines.
To experience how EVs perform in winter conditions and get your questions answered by knowledgeable EV Ambassadors, the Climate and Energy Division invites the community to mark their calendars for a free electric vehicle test-drive event, which will take place at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex on Saturday February 28, 2026.
