Effective January 1, 2025, there is now a $20 fee per document for Dufferin County residents and a $50 fee for non-residents as per User Fee By-Law 2025-02.
The County of Dufferin has Commissioners of Oath that are available to officially witness your signature. A Commissioner of Oaths does not certify that the statements being made in the affidavit or statutory declaration are true, but only certifies that an oath or solemn affirmation has been administered properly.
Documents can be commissioned at the Dufferin County office in Orangeville by appointment only. Please call 519-941-2816 ext. 2500 to arrange an appointment. Please review the list of documents below that we will and will not commission.
All parties signing the document must be present before the Commissioner and must show valid government issued photo identification. There is no charge if you are a Dufferin County resident, otherwise there is a fee of $50.00.
The Commissioner of Oaths will review the document you wish to have commissioned and reserves the right to refuse commissioning services of any document. It is at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of Oaths whether they choose to sign any document or declaration.
We are unable to provide certified true copies of documents that were not issued by the County of Dufferin.
Documents We Will Commission
There is no guarantee that a document can be commissioned until it is seen by the Commissioner.

- Domestic and foreign pension or proof of life
- Province of Ontario government printed forms – affidavits, oaths and statutory declarations subject to the restrictions of what we will NOT commission
- Vehicle transfers (Ontario forms only)
- Vaccine Exemption Forms (Ontario forms only)
Documents We Cannot Commission

- anything specifically requiring a notary public
- any documents requiring the signature of a guarantor, including passport and citizenship documents (document will note this requirement)
- court and/or legal documents (related to civil issues)
- Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee (with or without a will)
- certified true copies – we are unable to provide certified true copies of documents that were not issued by the County of Dufferin
- custody documents
- divorce, separation, marriage cohabitation (living in a common-law relationship) agreements
- documents involving finance or debt (example: banking documents)
- estate settlement documents
- Power of Attorney
- Ministry of Community and Social Services Family Responsibility Office forms
- real estate matters (including sale, purchase and mortgages or rental lease agreement)
- travel affidavit – parent’s permission to allow children to travel outside of the Country
- wills, estates and trusts
