Celebrate Museum Month and International Museum Day this May at the Museum of Dufferin!
May is Museum Month in Ontario and May 18 is International Museum Day! Celebrate all the benefits that museums bring to our communities by visiting the Museum of Dufferin (MoD) this May.
“This year’s theme for May is Museum Month is Museums for Education and Research. Museums play an integral role in learning and innovation as well as knowledge keeping and sharing,” says Jasmine Proteau, Museum Services Manager. “We welcome Dufferin County residents and visitors to explore the MoD this May – discover our galleries, take part in our programs and events and immerse yourself in the stories of Dufferin’s history and culture!”
International Museum Day
On May 18, visit the MoD for free! Visitors can also try out a scavenger hunt and take part in other fun activities throughout the galleries.
To celebrate, the Museum is leading special behind-the-scenes tours in its storage rooms with staff. These rooms are not usually accessible to the public…but the Museum is opening them up just for you! How does the MoD keep the artifacts and archival documents safe? How does it choose artifacts for display? Does it have dinosaur bones? Does it have secret love letters? Find out the answers to these questions and more on this rarely offered tour!
About the MoD

Located at 936029 Airport Road, Mulmur, Ontario, the MoD features three galleries with permanent and rotating exhibitions and art shows, as well as four historic buildings. The MoD is also home to the Dufferin County Archives where people are welcome to research anything and everything related to Dufferin County’s people, places, and culture.

About May is Museum Month
Every year since 1977, ICOM has organized International Museum Day (IMD), which represents a unique moment for the international museum community. On this day, participating museums plan creative events and activities related to the International Museum Day theme, engage with their public and highlight the importance of the role of museums as institutions that serve society and its development.
