Home County Services Council

Dufferin County Council consists of 15 members representing each of the 8 municipalities in Dufferin. Council meeting processes are set out in the County’s Procedural By-law.

With few exceptions, County Council meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 pm. Standing Committee meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of the month at the following times: Infrastructure & Environmental Services 9 am, General Government Services 11 am, Health & Human Services 1 pm, and Community Development & Tourism 3 pm. Council and Standing Committee meetings are live streamed on Dufferin County’s YouTube channel.

Council Code of Conduct

The Council Code of Conduct helps to ensure that the members of Council share a common basis for acceptable conduct. These standards should serve to enhance public confidence that the County’s elected representatives operate from a base of integrity, justice and courtesy.

If you believe that a member of Council has breached the Code of Conduct, you may request an investigation by the Integrity Commissioner, Charles A. Harnick of ADR Chambers. The request form is available below. A copy of the Complaint Protocol can be found here.

Closed Meeting Investigation Request

According to Section 239 of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, any person may request an investigation to determine if a municipality or local board has met the requirements outlined in the Municipal Act or its Procedure By-law regarding a meeting that was closed to the public, in part or in whole.

If you feel that any board or sub-committee of a municipality within Dufferin County has failed to meet its closed meeting requirements, then you may submit a request for investigation. Complete and submit the form below.

Next Steps

The Integrity Commissioner will use the contact information you have provided to communicate with you about this complaint. If the complaint falls under the Code of Conduct, a copy will be provided to the Council Member(s) you named. Your name but not your contact information will be included. If the Commissioner conducts an investigation, you, the Council Member(s) and other persons may be asked for more information. At the end of an investigation, the Commissioner will report to Council about whether the Council Member(s) contravened the Code of Conduct. The Commissioner may disclose in the report such matters as in the Commissioner's opinion are necessary for the purposes of the report. Reports to Council become public documents.

Your name, address, comments, and any other personal information, is collected and maintained for the purpose of conducting an investigation under Section 223.4 of the Municipal Act, 2001. This complaint is being filed under section 1.19 of the Council Code of Conduct. The Ombudsman resolves and investigates more than 20,000 public complaints every year about Ontario government organizations and municipalities, universities and school boards. The Ombudsman recommends solutions to individual and systemic administrative problems.
