Dufferin County keeps community moving with 2026 capital construction projects
Dufferin County continues to invest in critical transportation infrastructure improvements to maintain a safe, reliable and efficient road network for residents, businesses, emergency services and visitors.
The County is responsible for maintaining 315.9 kilometres of roads, 37 bridges and 71 structural culverts within the County’s roadways with an additional 11 structural culverts within the County’s Rail Trail. The 2026 Capital Construction Program includes significant roadway rehabilitation and structure improvement projects across the county that will help preserve infrastructure, improve road conditions, and extend the service life of key transportation assets.
The County is informing community members about what they can expect over the coming months.
Major road rehabilitation projects
The County is undertaking some road rehabilitation projects to enhance safety and improve road conditions.
Dufferin County Road 10 rehabilitation
The County will rehabilitate approximately 9.7 kilometres of Dufferin County Road 10 between Dufferin County Road 25 and the west limits of Laurel, within the Township of Amaranth and the Town of Grand Valley.
The project includes replacement of select road and driveway culverts, localized ditch improvements, road platform rehabilitation, new asphalt paving, shoulder restoration and pavement markings. Upon completion, the project will provide a smoother driving surface, improved drainage and enhanced long-term performance of the roadway.
Traffic disruptions during construction will include temporary lane restrictions, intermittent delays and temporary full road closures with no through traffic at select cross culvert replacement locations where maintaining traffic during replacement is not practical. Advance notice of all road closures, including detour routes and emergency access provisions where applicable, will be provided prior to implementation.
Dufferin County Road 17 Rehabilitation
Approximately 7.7 kilometres of Dufferin County Road 17 will be rehabilitated between Highway 89 and Highway 10 in the Township of Melancthon.
Like the Dufferin County Road 10 project, the work includes culvert replacements, drainage improvements, full-depth road rehabilitation, new asphalt paving, shoulder restoration and line painting. These improvements will enhance road safety, ride quality and the overall condition of this important east-west transportation corridor.
Culvert Rehabilitation Projects
The County will also undertake rehabilitation work on three major culvert structures to preserve critical infrastructure and maintain safe travel routes.
Dufferin County Road 18 – Culvert 004-0912
Located approximately 1.3 kilometres north of Dufferin County Road 21, this project includes sediment removal, construction of a new concrete cut-off wall, culvert lining repairs, stream restoration and new guide rail installation.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane throughout the construction period. Please expect delays.
Dufferin County Road 109 – Culvert 203304
Located on Dufferin County Road 109, approximately 75 metres east of 15 Sideroad in the Township of East Garafraxa, this rehabilitation project includes structural concrete repairs, waterproofing and repaving of the roadway surface.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane throughout the construction period. Please expect delays.
Dufferin County Road 124 – Culvert 517326XC
Located on Dufferin County Road 124, approximately 250 metres south of Sideroad 15 Melancthon, this project includes replacement of deteriorated retaining walls, installation of a new header wall and structural concrete repairs.
The project will require a temporary single-lane operation for up to 33 days, while maintaining one lane of traffic throughout construction.
Asphalt Patching Program – various locations
The County intends to complete asphalt patching on Dufferin County Roads 3, 7, 18 and 109 to address localized pavement deterioration and extend the service life of these roadways. The work will include removal and replacement of deteriorated asphalt at select locations.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane during the work period. Please expect delays.
The work is anticipated to proceed later this construction season; however, the contract has not yet been awarded, and the schedule and locations remain subject to change.
Road users reminded to keep our community safe
Construction activities are expected to occur over the coming months during the construction season. While every effort will be made to minimize disruptions, motorists should anticipate temporary lane restrictions, reduced speed limits and occasional delays in active work zones.
The County reminds all road users to slow down, obey posted signage and exercise caution when travelling through construction areas. Protecting the safety of both workers and the travelling public remains a top priority and is the responsibility of everyone.
